Job summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable cook to join our kitchen and production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality Nigerian meals in commercial quantities while maintaining consistent taste, quality, portion sizes, hygiene, and food safety standards.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Prepare Nigerian dishes, including rice, soups, stews, sauces, and proteins, to Awameal’s standards.
- Maintain consistent taste, seasoning, texture, quality, and portion sizes during bulk production.
- Follow approved recipes, measurements, SOPs, and food safety standards.
- Manage cooking processes efficiently to meet daily production targets and deadlines
- Safely prepare and handle meat, chicken, turkey, fish, and other proteins.
- Minimise food wastage while maintaining food quality and production standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workstation
- Work closely with the Head of Kitchen and production team to ensure smooth operations.
- Promptly report issues relating to ingredients, equipment, or food quality.
- Minimum of SSCE/High School Certificate.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional cooking experience, preferably in a restaurant, food production company, catering business, or commercial kitchen.
- Excellent knowledge of Nigerian cuisine and cooking techniques.
- Proven ability to prepare Nigerian rice dishes, soups, stews, sauces, and proteins on a commercial scale.
- Good understanding of seasoning, measurements, portion control, cooking times, and consistency.
- Experience preparing large quantities of food while maintaining consistent taste and quality.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene, safe food handling, and kitchen sanitation.
- Ability to follow recipes, SOPs, production instructions, and standard measurements.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- Understanding of food cost, portion control, and waste reduction.
- Strong attention to taste, quality, cleanliness, and presentation.
- Physically fit and able to stand for prolonged periods and perform kitchen duties.
- Punctual, reliable, honest, and accountable.
- Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, overnight shifts, and assigned shifts when required.
- Must be based in Owerri or willing to work in Owerri.
Location: Owerri, Imo State
Remuneration: NGN 130,000 Monthly
