Medical Laboratory Scientist

Responsibilities:

• Collect, receive, label, process, and analyze patient specimens according to established procedures.
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, and other relevant investigations.
• Ensure accurate documentation, interpretation, and timely reporting of laboratory results.
• Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
• Conduct quality control checks and adhere to laboratory quality assurance standards.
• Maintain proper records of test results, reagents, samples, and laboratory activities.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of specimens, chemicals, and biohazardous materials.
• Monitor laboratory supplies and reagents and report stock requirements promptly.
• Follow infection prevention, biosafety, and health and safety procedures at all times.
• Communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals regarding laboratory investigations and results.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable professional and regulatory standards.
• Identify and report equipment faults, abnormal results, and other laboratory issues promptly.
• Participate in audits, training, continuous improvement initiatives, and other activities aimed at improving laboratory efficiency and patient care.
• Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
• Valid professional registration/licence to practice.
• Relevant experience in a hospital, diagnostic centre, or clinical laboratory is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control, and biosafety practices.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
