Kitchen Steward

Responsibilities:

Cleaning & Sanitation:

• Wash, rinse, and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of the dishwashing area and all back-of-house kitchen spaces.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, and sanitize floors, walls, sinks, counters, and workstations.
• Ensure proper handling and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Follow HACCP and hotel hygiene standards at all times.

Kitchen Support:

• Assist chefs and cooks with basic food prep (washing, peeling, and portioning) when required.
• Empty trash bins, replace liners, and safely dispose of kitchen waste.
• Restock cleaning supplies, kitchen tools, and consumables where needed.
• Assist in receiving and storing deliveries (dry goods, perishables, beverages).
• Organize and maintain storage areas: dry stores, cold rooms, and freezers.

Equipment Care:

• Ensure dishwashing machines and equipment are properly operated and maintained.
• Report mechanical or maintenance issues immediately to the supervisor.
• Handle all equipment safely and responsibly.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a steward, kitchen assistant, or cleaner in a hotel or restaurant is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety standards.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Physically fit and able to lift, bend, and stand for long periods.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
