Job summary

The Assistant Decorator supports the decorating team in preparing and decorating cakes, pastries, and other baked products. The role involves assisting with icing, piping, finishing touches, and ensuring that all baked goods meet the required quality, design, and presentation standards.

Responsibilities:

Assist in Product Decoration:

  • Support the lead decorator in icing, frosting, and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and pastries.
  • Apply basic decorations such as borders, lettering, piping, and toppings.


Prepare Decorating Materials:

  • Prepare and mix icing, fondant, glazes, and food colorings as required.
  • Ensure decorating tools and materials are readily available for production.


Cake and Pastry Preparation:

  • Assist with leveling, layering, filling, and crumb-coating cakes before decoration.
  • Help assemble multi-layer cakes and specialty baked products.


Quality Control:

  • Ensure decorated products meet the company’s quality, design, and presentation standards.
  • Inspect products before packaging or displaying.


Workstation Hygiene and Safety:

  • Maintain a clean and organized decorating workstation.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.


Packaging and Display Support:

  • Assist with packaging decorated cakes and pastries for delivery or sale.
  • Arrange finished products attractively for display.


Inventory Support:

  • Monitor inventory of decorating supplies, including icing, fondant, edible decorations, and packaging materials.
  • Report low stock levels to the supervisor.


Order Fulfilment Support:

  • Assist in preparing products according to customer orders and design specifications.
  • Help ensure orders are completed accurately and on time


Requirements:

  • 2 years of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum SSCE.
Fondant decoration skill • Basic knowledge of cake decorating and baking processes creative • Good hand–eye coordination and steady hands for piping and decorating • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices.
