Job Summary
A Packaging Officer in a food packaging business is responsible for preparing, packaging, sealing, and labeling food products according to hygiene, safety, and quality standards. The role ensures that all packaged food items are fresh, properly portioned, attractively presented, and ready for distribution or sale.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Food Packaging & Handling
- Package food products according to company recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Ensure correct sealing, wrapping, and labeling to maintain product freshness and safety.
- Use approved food-grade packaging materials.
- Handle food products in a sanitary and contamination-free manner.
Hygiene, Quality & Safety Control
- Follow all food safety regulations (HACCP, NAFDAC standards, good manufacturing practices).
- Wear proper PPE such as gloves, hairnets, and aprons during operations.
- Inspect food items for quality, freshness, and proper portioning before packaging.
- Report any spoilage, contamination, or equipment malfunction immediately.
Inventory & Material Management
- Monitor stock levels of packaging materials (containers, films, labels, bags, sealing tapes).
- Request replenishment when materials run low.
- Ensure proper storage of packaging materials to prevent contamination.
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain daily logs of packaged quantities, batch numbers, and product types.
- Prepare accurate labels with expiry dates, production dates, and product information.
- Assist in preparing packaging and dispatch records for logistics.
Coordination & Workflow Support
- Work with the production team to meet daily packaging targets.
- Arrange packaged items in crates or cartons for easy movement to cold storage or dispatch.
- Support stock rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out).
- Assist in loading finished packaged products for delivery when required.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate sealing machines, labeling machines, weighing scales, and shrink machines safely.
- Keep equipment clean and report any faults.
- Follow standard operating procedures for all packaging tools.
Workplace Safety & Cleanliness
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic packaging area.
- Follow safety rules to avoid food contamination or accidents.
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain good housekeeping.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Secondary school certificate (SSCE)
- Added advantage: Experience in food production, packaging, or food handling
- Training in food hygiene or safety (optional but beneficial)
- Strong attention to hygiene and food safety
- Fast and accurate packaging skills
- Good teamwork and communication
- Ability to work under pressure and meet daily targets
- Basic record-keeping ability
- Knowledge of food handling standards
