Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement annual farming plans, including crop rotation schedules, planting schedules, and harvesting timelines, to optimize yield and sustainability.
- Create and manage the farm's budget, including tracking expenses, monitoring costs, and purchasing necessary supplies like seeds, feed, and fertilizer.
- Manage and allocate resources effectively, including labor, equipment, and materials, to ensure operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of farm operations, production metrics, and financial performance.
- Prepare and present reports to farm owners or stakeholders.
- Oversee all aspects of crop production, including preparing soil, planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and harvesting.
- Monitor and manage pests and diseases.
- Provide daily care for livestock, which may include feeding, watering, cleaning pens and enclosures, and monitoring the animals' health.
- Coordinate with veterinarians as needed.
- Arrange for and, when necessary, perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm buildings, fences, and machinery such as tractors, pumps, and irrigation systems.
- Perform physical duties alongside farm workers, including manual labor tasks, equipment operation, and general upkeep.
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers, assigning tasks and monitoring performance to ensure farm protocols and safety procedures are followed.
- Develop work schedules and conduct daily briefings to ensure effective communication and task completion.
- Enforce health and safety regulations and biosecurity measures across all farm activities.
- Market farm products to buyers, distributors, or directly to consumers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
- Ensure all farm activities comply with government regulations, environmental laws, and industry standards.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in farm management or a related agricultural role, preferably in a similar production environment (e.g., poultry, crops, livestock).
- Strong knowledge of modern agricultural practices, equipment, and technologies.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management abilities.
- A hands-on, problem-solving-oriented approach with strong leadership skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors for long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and handling financial data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage staff and interact with stakeholders.
