The Deputy Factory Manager supports the Factory Manager in overseeing daily factory operations to ensure efficient production, quality output, with safety standards. The role involves supervising production teams, coordinating maintenance activities, monitoring workflow, managing resources, and helping to implement operational improvements.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Production Management:

  • Assist in planning and executing daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
  • Ensure rubber processing machines (mixers, crushers, dryers, boilers, extruders, etc.) operate efficiently.
  • Monitor production output and address any delays or bottlenecks.


Staff Supervision & Leadership:

  • Supervise production supervisors, shift leaders, and machine operators.
  • Ensure proper staffing for all shifts.
  • Conduct training, performance monitoring, and team development.


Equipment & Maintenance Coordination:

  • Work closely with the engineering/maintenance team to plan preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Ensure machines are routinely inspected and factory downtime is minimised.
  • Report and follow up on machinery faults promptly.


Quality Control:

  • Ensure finished rubber products meet required standards and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC teams on sampling, testing, and quality checks.
  • Identify defects and implement corrective actions.


Safety & Compliance:

  • Enforce HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) policies within the factory.
  • Conduct safety briefings, emergency drills, and ensure use of PPE.
  • Ensure factory operations comply with regulatory and company standards.


Resource & Material Management:

  • Monitor usage of raw materials like latex, chemicals, and additives.
  • Ensure proper coordination with the warehouse and procurement teams.
  • Minimise wastage and optimise material consumption.


Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare daily and weekly production reports for management.
  • Track KPIs such as machine utilisation, downtime, output, scrap rates, and labour efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety.
  • Recommend upgrades to machinery, processes, or workflow.
  • Support implementation of Lean, Kaizen, or 5S practices.


Acting Factory Manager:

  • Take full leadership of factory operations in the absence of the Factory Manager.
  • Handle urgent operational decisions and staff coordination.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Production, or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing (preferably rubber or similar industries).
  • Experience in supervisory or managerial roles.
  • Certifications in production or project management (e.g., PMP, Lean) are an advantage.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Good understanding of rubber production processes and machinery.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of HSE and quality standards
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets
  • Understanding of production KPIs and reporting tools
