Role Description The Master onboard a Security Vessel is a full-time, on-site role based in Port Harcourt. This position is responsible for the overall command, safe navigation, and operation of the security vessel, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, company policies, and client requirements. Day-to-day tasks include planning and executing safe voyages, overseeing security operations, supervising deck and engine crew, and maintaining readiness for offshore and coastal assignments. The Master will coordinate with shore-based management, clients, and other vessels, manage onboard documentation and reporting, and ensure proper implementation of safety, security, and emergency preparedness procedures. The role also involves monitoring vessel performance, overseeing maintenance activities in collaboration with engineers, conducting regular drills and briefings, and promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and integrity among all personnel on board.
Qualifications
- Strong vessel command and navigation skills, including experience as Master or senior officer on security or offshore support vessels.
- Proficiency in maritime safety and security practices, including ISPS Code, SOLAS, and emergency response procedures.
- Competence in crew management, onboard leadership, and clear communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of marine operations in the oil and gas sector, including offshore logistics and client interface.
- Valid STCW-compliant certifications and licenses appropriate for service as Master, with all required medical and safety clearances.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate logs, reports, and regulatory documentation, and to follow company operational standards.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in dynamic and high-risk maritime environments.
- Prior experience working in Nigerian coastal and offshore waters, or similar environments, is an advantage.
- Relevant maritime academy or nautical education, and continuous professional development in marine security and safety.
