All our efforts are based on our value compass: humanity, respect, independence and neutrality, participation, and honesty and transparency.BackgroundDanish Refugee Council (DRC), and its safety unit, has had an operational presence in Nigeria since 2015. DRC Nigeria is the largest DRC country mission in the West Africa region and one of the largest DRC country missions globally. Currently, DRC delivers life-saving assistance and protection to vulnerable, conflict-affected populations including internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities in the areas of armed violence reduction, humanitarian mine action, livelihoods, nutrition and food security, protection, shelter and non-food items (NFI) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in 30+ Local Government Areas (LGAs) across northeast Nigeria.PurposeDanish Refugee Council is seeking a proactive and competent individual to support the operation as Humanitarian Access and Safety Assistant in Adamawa State. Reporting to the Area Manager and stationed primarily in Mubi, this position assists in the implementation of safety policies, plans and procedures the LGAs that DRC operates in. This position also provides advice on all manner of safety related manners and protocol.This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to base operations.Duties and Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Area Manager with support from the Country Safety Manager and area Safety Officer, the holder of this position shall perform the following duties: Monitor the evolving situation in areas of operation and relay this information to relevant staff. Establish a network of local contacts which facilitates safe access for DRC operations. Assist in the development and facilitation of safety training to DRC staff and drivers.Lead in the conducting of site assessments of office spaces, guesthouses, warehouses and other sites as required.Assist in the drafting of standard operating procedures, contingency plans, threat assessments and other documentsAssist in the updating of pre-arrival briefs, local safety rules, security phone trees and safety briefs.Assist the implementation of safety policies, protocols and procedures. Lead regular safety audits of the offices, warehouses and guesthouses to include, but not limited to, checks of fire extinguishers, safe room supplies, first aid kits, emergency communication equipment and physical security elements (MOSS).Assist in the development of Safety Improvement Plans (SIP) for any gaps in safety identified.Contribute to weekly area safety sitreps to be sent to the Area Manager.Monitor vehicle and personal tracking system. Alert relevant parties in case of an emergency event.The responsibilities listed in the JD are not exhaustive and may be readjusted according to operational needs but will remain in line with the overall purpose of the role. Qualifications University degree in relevant sector (sociology, political science, or other relevant equivalent disciplines).At least 1 year of experience in similar roleAdvanced English proficiencyFluency in Hausa Desirable: Previous working experience with humanitarian agenciesExperience working with displaced populations.Experience in Microsoft word/excel. 1. General Regulations The employee shall follow DRC instructions on safety, confidentiality and ethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Accountability Framework.Employee should not engage in any other paid activity during the DRC contract period without prior authorization.Employee should not engage in any activity that could harm DRC or the implementation of any project during the DRC contract period.Employee should not give interviews to the media or publish project-related photos or other material without prior authorization.Employee shall return all borrowed equipment for the project to DRC after the end of the contract period or upon request. 2. Application ProcessAre you interested?
