Head of Department, English & Languages

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a department structure that ensures strong learning opportunities for students in Years 7-12
• Promote student engagement and success in the Department subject(s)
• Work with other Heads of Department in the Learning and Curriculum Group, and elsewhere, towards the strategic academic objectives of the School
• Develop staff capabilities and strengthen staff collaborations in the department
• Meet with Department staff and set goals and priorities
• Work with the Principal and Head of School to enhance Professional Learning and Performance in supporting and developing department members in their subject teaching roles.
• Provide an induction for new staff and manage new staff through involvement in the School’s staff orientation program for the department
• Provide opportunities for meaningful discussion and continual improvement of learning pedagogies
• Continually monitor and refine the sequence and scope of Years 7-12 courses and to maintain accurate documentation of such courses
• Maintain a sound understanding of the requirements of curricula as well as the procedures for developing new or revised courses
• Manage processes for assessment procedures and recommendations regarding student’s pathways in subject area(s)
• Explore, facilitate and prepare for the success of students in competitions of value

Requirements:

• Candidates should possess a minimum of B.Ed./B.Sc./BA(Ed) in English Language with at least 7 years cognate experience
• Masters in Education is desirable
• Cognate working experience and not less than 5 years in Management/Leadership position in an international school is required.
• He/she must possess a working knowledge of the Nigerian and British Curriculum and must be computer literate.
• Must display teaching dynamism of the 21st century teacher
