The Depot Officer in a publishing company is responsible for managing the storage, handling, and distribution of books and other printed materials. The role ensures that inventory is accurately recorded, securely stored, and dispatched efficiently to schools, bookstores, sales representatives, and other clients.

Job Description/Requirements
- Receive, inspect, and record incoming books and printed materials from the production or warehouse units.
- Oversee the proper arrangement, storage, and labeling of books to ensure ease of access, safety, and preservation.
- Handle stock issuance to sales representatives, clients, and regional depots based on approved requests.
- Maintain accurate stock registers and update electronic inventory systems daily.
- Monitor stock levels and notify management of reorder needs or low-stock items.
- Conduct periodic stock counts (daily, weekly, and monthly) and prepare reconciliation reports.
- Supervise the loading and offloading of books to ensure accuracy of quantities and prevent damage.
- Ensure proper documentation for all inbound and outbound stock (waybills, delivery notes, requisition forms, etc.).
- Liaise with the sales, logistics, and production departments to facilitate the timely supply of books.
- Maintain depot facilities, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and proper arrangement of materials.
- Safeguard books and other inventory against loss, theft, or damage by enforcing security protocols.
- Track and follow up on deliveries to ensure customers and sales teams receive their books promptly.
- Prepare and submit daily depot activity reports to the Operations or Sales Department.
- Support annual audit activities through accurate and organized documentation.
Requirements:
- OND/HND/BSc in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Publishing Studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in depot, warehouse, or inventory management—preferably in a publishing, printing, or FMCG environment.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control and stock management.
- Good numerical accuracy and record-keeping ability.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with inventory software or ERP systems.
- Ability to organize large volumes of books and maintain a tidy storage environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, especially during book distribution seasons.High level of integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail
- Physical stamina to lift, move, and arrange book stocks when required.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
