Legal Officer
Job summary
The Legal Officer provides legal guidance, ensures compliance with laws, and manages legal risks. They draft and review contracts, advise management on corporate and regulatory matters, liaise with external counsel, handle disputes, and support policy development to protect the organization’s legal interests.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Litigation portfolio management, managing threats of legal actions, and supervising the activities of external counsel.
- Drafting, review and negotiating contracts and transaction advisory.
- Monitor and drive the implementation of actions arising from regulatory obligations across the plants, identify legal issues, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Assist in training staff, including Sales and Marketing teams, and plant management, on company policies, including compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, including data protection.
- Assisting the company Secretary in the execution of various company secretariat tasks, including meetings, regulatory filings, etc.
- Monitoring changes in relevant legislation and regulatory environment and advising the business accordingly.
- Assisting the company Secretary in the management of relationships with relevant regulatory bodies, including CAC, SEC, NGx, FRC, etc.
- Responding to regulatory directives, incidents within the purview of the legal and compliance team, and engaging with relevant authorities on behalf of the business.
- Supporting the Management of the company's intellectual property portfolio, real estate portfolio, and regulatory tracker.
Requirements:
- LLB, BL
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in an FMCG company is an added advantage
- Demonstration of Legal expertise
