Job summary

The Legal Counsel will provide commercially focused legal, regulatory and risk-management support across all entities within the Pivot Group. The role will lead the drafting and review of commercial documentation, support business transactions and regulatory engagements, manage legal risks, and coordinate external legal advisers where required.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely legal advice and risk-management support to management and business teams across the Group.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and manage contracts, transaction documents and other legal instruments for the Group’s operations.
  • Support the structuring of commercial transactions, investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic collaborations.
  • Conduct legal due diligence and prepare or coordinate transaction documentation for investments, acquisitions and other corporate transactions.
  • Advise on applicable laws, regulations, licences, permits and approvals affecting the Group’s business and operations.
  • Support the application for, renewal and maintenance of regulatory licences, permits, consents and approvals.
  • Develop, review and implement legal, compliance and risk-management policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Manage disputes, claims, litigation, regulatory enquiries and external counsel relationships.


Requirements:

  • LL.B. from a recognised institution.
  • Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (B.L.) and called to the Nigerian Bar.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant post-call experience in a reputable law firm, in-house legal department or regulated industry.
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation, corporate transactions, regulatory compliance and legal risk management.
  • Experience in the oil and gas, energy, logistics, trading, infrastructure or other regulated sectors will be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, contract, employment and regulatory law.
  • Familiarity with the Nigerian downstream petroleum regulatory environment, including applicable licensing and compliance requirements, will be an advantage.\
  • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, research, analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, commercially sound legal advice in a fast-paced business environment.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
