Senior Carpenter
Job summary
The senior carpenter is responsible for leading carpentry and joinery activities within the factory and on installation sites. The role involves manufacturing high-quality furniture, cabinetry, wardrobes, doors, and bespoke woodwork while supervising carpenters and apprentices, ensuring adherence to quality standards, productivity targets, and safety requirements. The senior carpenter serves as a technical expert and mentor, providing guidance to junior carpenters and ensuring projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and within schedule.

- Lead the fabrication and assembly of cabinets, wardrobes, kitchen units, office furniture, doors, and custom-made furniture.
- Interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and cutting lists.
- Plan work sequences and allocate tasks to carpenters and apprentices.
- Verify dimensions, measurements, and material specifications before production.
- Execute complex joinery and finishing work requiring advanced carpentry skills.
- Ensure finished products meet company quality standards and customer requirements.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of carpenters, machine operators, and apprentices.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to junior personnel.
- Monitor employee performance and recommend improvements.
- Ensure adherence to production schedules and project deadlines.
- Assist management in workforce planning and task allocation.
- Lead installation teams during site projects.
- Coordinate site measurements and verification activities.

- Ensure safe operation of woodworking machinery, including CNC machines, Panel saws, Edge banders, Planers, Thicknessers, Routers, Drilling machines and Sanding equipment
- Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance requirements.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of tools and equipment.
- Enforce compliance with company health and safety procedures.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Conduct regular workplace safety inspections.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within production and installation areas.
- Report incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly.
- Recommend improvements to production methods and manufacturing processes.
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing and waste reduction initiatives.
- Participate in product development and prototype reviews when required.
- Assist management in improving productivity and operational efficiency.
- SSCE, Technical College Certificate, Trade Test Certificate, or equivalent qualification in Carpentry, Furniture Production, Woodworking, or related discipline.
- A minimum of 5–6 years of practical experience in carpentry, furniture manufacturing, cabinet making, or joinery.
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Proven experience in manufacturing and installing premium furniture and cabinetry.
- Experience operating modern woodworking machinery and equipment.
- Ability to stand and work for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move furniture components and materials safely.
- Ability to work in factory and construction site environments.
- Advanced Trade Certification in Carpentry and Joinery.
- Vocational or Technical Diploma in Furniture Manufacturing or Wood Technology.
