Job summary

The Quantity Surveyor will oversee contract financial management, cost estimation, material take-offs, and commercial risk for both decorative/industrial paint manufacturing and turnkey application projects. This role bridges production economics (cost of goods, yield ratios) and field execution (site measurements, subcontractor valuations, and client billing).

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Estimation & Tendering: Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ), material schedules, and labor estimates for commercial, residential, and industrial coating projects. Calculate required paint volume based on substrate conditions, spread rates, and loss factors.
  • Manufacturing & Material Cost Control: Collaborate with factory production teams to track batch yields, raw material costs, and packaging expenses. Establish standard unit rates for supply-and-apply contracts.
  • Subcontractor & Application Management: Evaluate, negotiate, and certify payments for painting application teams and specialized applicators. Monitor site labor productivity against budgeted targets.
  • Site Measurement & Valuations: Conduct joint site measurements with client representatives. Prepare interim valuation certificates, variation orders, and final accounts for ongoing project sites.
  • Contract Administration & Risk Management: Review contract terms, manage dispute resolution, and track client claims or scope changes to protect company margins.
  • Cost Reporting: Prepare monthly commercial reports comparing budgeted vs. actual material consumption (liters used vs. surface area covered) and profit margins per project.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Building Technology, or Construction Management.
  • Professional Certification: Affiliation with a recognized professional body (e.g., NIQS, RICS, or local equivalent) is preferred.
  • 3–5 years in commercial quantity surveying, preferably with exposure to architectural finishes, specialized coatings, or building material manufacturing/contracting.


Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in QS software (e.g., CostX, PlanSwift, AutoCAD) and advanced MS Excel.
  • Technical understanding of paint coverage rates, film thickness (DFT/WFT), surface preparation standards, and substrate absorption factors.
  • Strong negotiation, contract drafting, and commercial management skills.

Remuneration: NGN 250,000 monthly
