Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on the nutritional composition of traditional and contemporary African & Afro-Caribbean dishes and ingredients, considering regional variations and preparation methods.
- Systematically collect, analyze, and validate nutritional data from diverse sources, including scientific literature, culinary databases, traditional knowledge, and laboratory analyses when necessary.
- Develop standardized protocols and methodologies for data collection and entry to ensure accuracy and consistency within our software systems.
- Collaborate closely with our software development team to translate complex nutritional data into user-friendly and accessible formats within our applications.
- Identify and address data gaps or inconsistencies, proactively seeking solutions and verifying information through expert consultation and research.
- Stay abreast of the latest research and trends in nutrition science, food composition, and African & Afro-Caribbean culinary practices.
- Contribute to the development of culturally sensitive and relevant dietary recommendations and information within our software.
- Document research findings, methodologies, and data sources in a clear and organized manner.
- Potentially contribute to content creation, such as recipes, meal plans, and educational materials, based on the validated food data.
- Participate in team meetings and provide expert nutritional insights related to African & Afro-Caribbean cuisine.
Requirements:
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Food Science, or a related field
- Demonstrable deep knowledge and understanding of the diverse ingredients, preparation methods, and nutritional profiles of Afro-Caribbean cuisines (across various regions and cultures)
- Strong research and analytical skills with experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation
- Proficiency in using databases, spreadsheets (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets), and data analysis tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex nutritional information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Cultural sensitivity and a genuine interest in promoting the nutritional value and cultural significance of Africa & Afro-Caribbean foods.
- Experience in food data management or working with nutritional databases
