Job Summary

A Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing all aspects of the cost and procurement process in construction projects, from initial estimates through to final account settlements. The QS ensures that building projects are completed within budget and comply with legal and quality standards while maximizing value for money. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of construction methods and materials, and a sound understanding of contract law and financial management.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Bill of Quantity. Cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents for construction projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and value engineering to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate contractor and subcontractor bids, negotiate contracts, and manage procurement.
  • Monitor and control project costs, ensuring alignment with the approved budget.
  • Conduct site visits and work closely with engineers, architects, and project managers.
  • Prepare and submit interim valuations, progress claims, and final accounts.
  • Manage change orders and variations to the contract, ensuring proper documentation and approval.
  • Advise clients and stakeholders on cost implications, contract obligations, and commercial risk.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards.
  • Use industry software (e.g., CostX, WinQS, Candy, MS Excel) for cost planning and reporting.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying or construction cost management.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying and cost management software.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Professional membership (e.g., NIQS) is an advantage.
  • Experience with both pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying.
  • Knowledge of local construction laws, taxes, and regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience with infrastructure, commercial, or residential projects.
