Job Summary
We are looking to hire a Legal Officer is responsible for managing all legal aspects of the company’s operations, with a strong focus on intellectual property, copyright, licensing, and contract law. The officer ensures that all content published by the company complies with applicable laws and regulations and protects the company’s legal rights.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate publishing contracts, author agreements, licensing deals, vendor contracts, and NDAs.
- Ensure the company’s compliance with copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and publishing regulations.
- Advise internal teams on legal implications of publishing content, including copyright clearance and third-party material usage.
- Handle copyright registrations and renewals, and manage issues related to royalty agreements.
- Provide legal support in dispute resolution, litigation, and regulatory matters.
- Conduct legal research and keep the company updated on relevant legislative changes affecting the publishing industry.
- Work with external counsel on complex legal matters when required.
- Maintain an organized system of legal records and ensure proper documentation of all legal processes.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of LL.B degree from a recognized university and B.L. from the Nigerian Law School (or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of post-call experience, preferably in publishing, media, or intellectual property law.
- Membership in professional legal associations (e.g., NBA) is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property, copyright, and contract law.
- Excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with legal research tools.
