Waste/Methane Engineer
Job summary
EcoClimate Foundation seeks a Waste/Methane Engineer to support its climate resilience project aimed at reducing methane emissions from Nigerian dumpsites/landfills. The role involves waste characterization, methane monitoring, infrastructure design, training, and stakeholder engagement to ensure sustainable and scalable methane mitigation strategies.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Conduct waste characterization and methane emission studies.
- Design and oversee waste assessments, lab analysis, and decomposition studies.
- Develop methane monitoring frameworks using satellite and ground data.
- Lead design, construction, and testing of methane capture/utilization systems (biogas,waste-to-energy).
- Collaborate with dumpsite/landfill operators, government agencies, and research institutions.
- Deliver training for officials, operators, and informal waste pickers.
- Prepare technical reports, project pipelines, and funding proposals.
- Degree in Environmental/Chemical/Civil Engineering, Waste Management, or related field. Higher degrees is an added advantage
- 2–5 years in solid waste management, landfill design, methane control/utilization.
- Expertise in methane mitigation technologies.
- Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., CAD).
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and communities.
