Job Summary
The Program Instructor will serve as the lead facilitator for assigned Slate Center programs, delivering hands-on, project-based learning experiences that engage and inspire students between the ages of 4 and 16. The instructor will create an exciting and safe atmosphere for learning, exploration, creativity, and innovation. The highest priority of this role is the safety, growth, and development of every child while consistently modelling The Slate Center’s core values of curiosity, collaboration, resilience, and excellence. The Program Instructor will be directly responsible for preparing lessons, leading activities, supervising students during sessions, and maintaining a well-organized learning environment. In addition, the instructor will support the planning and successful delivery of after-school programs, clubs, day camps, and special events throughout the year, while maintaining strong communication with the Program Manager and parents.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Program Delivery & Student Engagement:
- Under limited supervision, deliver engaging, hands-on programs and activities for students in STEM, Creative Arts, Leadership, and Innovation modules.
- Facilitate daily lessons in a clear, structured, and energetic manner that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Model positive behaviour and maintain a warm, respectful, child-centred learning environment.
- Monitor and supervise students at all times to ensure safety, well-being, and productive engagement.
- Adapt instructional strategies to support different learning styles, abilities, and behavioural needs.
- Encourage student participation through positive reinforcement, inquiry-based learning, teamwork, and project challenges.
- Support the implementation of behaviour management systems that promote respect, order, and accountability.
Program Preparation & Coordination:
- Review lesson guides, prepare materials, and set up the learning space before each session.
- Maintain accurate attendance, student progress notes, and classroom observations.
- Submit daily activity reports and program feedback to the Program Manager.
- Ensure proper use, storage, care, and security of instructional materials and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment at all times.
Collaboration & Professional Conduct:
- Collaborate with tutors, program coordinators, and support staff to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Participate in team meetings, staff trainings, and professional development workshops.
- Communicate student needs, challenges, and incidents promptly to the Program Manager.
- Uphold all Slate Centre safety policies, safeguarding practices, and operating procedures.
- Serve as a role model to students by demonstrating passion for learning, integrity, kindness, and emotional maturity.
Parent and Customer Relations:
- Represent The Slate Centre positively in all interactions with students, parents, and visitors.
- Provide relevant student progress updates to parents as directed by the Program Manager.
- Support exceptional customer experience and student retention through positive engagement and consistency.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Engineering, Arts, Humanities, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 1–2 years of teaching, coaching, or facilitation experience with children or teens.
- Strong understanding of project-based learning, hands-on instruction, and student-centred methods.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to engage students across multiple age groups (4–16) in dynamic learning experiences.
- Passionate about STEM, creativity, innovation, experiential learning, and youth development.
- Must be patient, adaptable, energetic, and able to work in a fast-paced learning environment.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) is an added advantage.
- Must pass all child-safeguarding, background, and reference checks.

Reporting Line & Work Schedule:
- Reports directly to the After-School Program Manager
- Flexible Duration - Works according to assigned instructional schedule, Monday–Friday, with additional hours for camps, special events, or training as required
