Job summary
A Lister / Generator Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered generators (especially Lister engines). The role ensures generators operate efficiently and reliably to provide an uninterrupted power supply in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.

Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance on Lister and other diesel generators (oil changes, filter replacement, servicing).
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in generators.
- Repair or replace faulty engine components (injectors, pistons, fuel pumps, alternators, etc.).
- Install and commission new generators.
- Test generator performance and ensure proper functioning after repairs.
- Troubleshoot issues with starting, power output, or the fuel system.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards during all operations.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide quick solutions.
Requirements:
- Minimum of SSCE / WAEC or equivalent.
- Technical certification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or generator maintenance is an advantage.
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience working with generators (Lister preferred).
- Experience in industrial or commercial generator maintenance is an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines (especially Lister engines).
- Ability to diagnose generator faults (mechanical & electrical).
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used in generator repairs.
- Understanding of fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
- Attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
