HVAC/R Engineer
Job summary
We are urgently in need of an HVAC/R engineer (heating, ventilation, air conditioning & refrigeration engineer) that will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. The engineer ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Install, commission, and maintain HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on air conditioning systems, chillers, cold rooms, freezers, and ventilation systems.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults.
- Inspect equipment and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Recover, evacuate, charge, and handle refrigerants safely.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Monitor system performance and optimize energy efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and manufacturer specifications.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and minimize equipment downtime.
- Coordinate with contractors, technicians, and other engineering personnel during installations and maintenance activities.
Requirements:
- A minimum of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC/Refrigeration Engineering, Building Services Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering
- 3–5+ years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration installation, maintenance, and repair (depending on the role).
- Experience working with commercial or industrial HVAC/R systems is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration principles.
- Understanding of the refrigeration cycle, superheat, subcooling, and psychrometrics.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system faults.
- Experience with chillers, split units, package units, VRF/VRV systems, cold rooms, and industrial freezers.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency in using a manifold gauge set, digital multimeter, clamp meter, vacuum pump, refrigerant recovery machine, leak detector, and pressure testing equipment

- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency call-outs.
Safety Requirements:
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Safe handling and disposal of refrigerants.
- Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Certifications (Preferred):
- HVAC/R Certification or Trade Certificate.
- Refrigerant Handling Certification.
- Electrical safety certification.
- Occupational health and safety training.
- Valid driver's license (often required for field service roles).
