Industrial Electrician (Export Processing Terminal)

Responsibilities:

 Installation & Commissioning:

• Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of industrial equipment, including motors, control panels, switchgear, generators, and distribution systems.
• Interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate installation and troubleshooting.
• Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and systems, ensuring proper electrical hook-up and functionality.

Maintenance & Repair:

•  Perform routine preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment and systems to minimise downtime and extend asset life.
• Diagnose electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal imagers).
•  Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in PLCs, motor control circuits, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other complex industrial controls.
•  Replace defective components, wiring, and fixtures.
• Conduct pre-start and post-repair inspections to ensure operational safety and efficiency.

Safety & Compliance:

• Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and electrical codes (e.g., Nigerian Electrical Safety Regulations, IEC standards).
• Identify and report potential electrical hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant industry standards and company policies.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate records of all electrical maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
• Prepare detailed reports on equipment status, issues, and resolutions.
•  Suggest improvements for electrical systems and maintenance processes.

General Duties: 

• Collaborate effectively with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and operations personnel.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and provide timely solutions.
• Keep abreast of new electrical technologies, tools, and best practices.
• Participate in training programs as required.

Requirements:

• National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrician Trade Test III, II, I, or equivalent vocational training/certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as an Industrial Electrician, preferably within a heavy industrial environment, port operations, manufacturing plant, or a similar large-scale facility.
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, motors, generators, control circuits, and power distribution.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Experience with high-voltage systems is highly desirable.
• Proficient in using a variety of electrical testing equipment.
• Knowledge of industrial safety practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
