Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Build the core backend and web application for the MVP and PoC environments.
- Develop scalable APIs, authentication flows, and lightweight data pipelines.
- Implement media handling (e.g., uploading photos from the mobile web app).
- Integrate simple OCR services (cloud API or open-source) into the workflow.
- Work with temporary data stores (Airtable/Sheets) and prepare for migration to relational or NoSQL DBs (PostgreSQL / Firestore).
- Build stable transactional logic and multi-step validation flows.
- Collaborate closely with the frontend/mobile developer to deliver a smooth user experience.
- Maintain clean, testable code and clear documentation.
Requirements:
- Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, or similar backend stack.
- Solid experience building REST APIs or GraphQL.
- Know-how of AI prompting and its utilization in the software development lifecycle.
- Experience with database design, including migrations from lightweight storage systems.
- Familiarity with file/media upload workflows and backend processing.
- Understanding of modular service architecture and scalable system design.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with OCR APIs (Google Vision, AWS Textract, Tesseract, etc.). (Nice to have)
- Experience with payment platform integrations or webhook-based flows (e.g., Paystack, Flutterwave). (Nice to have)
- Knowledge of batch/lot tracking workflows or operational data models. (Nice to have)
- Previous startup or greenfield project experience. (Nice to have)
