Job Summary
Marine Engineers are responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of maritime vessels such as cargo ships, cruise liners, yachts, and oil rigs. They apply a wide range of technical and engineering skills to mechanical, structural, propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic systems, ensuring vessels operate efficiently and safely in compliance with maritime regulations.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for marine vessels.
- Conduct inspections, maintenance, and repairs on ships and marine equipment.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Collaborate with other engineers, technical crew, and clients to meet design and operational goals.
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations and classification standards.
- Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate records of engineering work.
- Supervise junior engineers and technicians in larger or leadership-based roles.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage for advanced roles or career progression.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in physics, mathematics, and engineering design principles.
- Ability to accurately diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Understanding of maritime laws and standards, including those from regulatory bodies such as:
- Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- United States Coast Guard (USCG)
- Relevant marine certifications may be required, especially for seagoing roles (e.g., STCW, MCA certification).
- Practical hands-on experience through internships, apprenticeships, or entry-level marine engineering roles is highly valuable.
- Supervisory skills are essential for roles requiring team management or project oversight.
