scalable digital experiences to customers worldwide.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Payment, Fintech & Security Engineer to join our Lagos team full-time and
onsite. You will own the engineering of our payment and money-movement systems end to end
from card processing and wallets to fraud prevention and regulatory compliance. You will work
closely with product, infrastructure, and leadership to build payment flows that are not only fast
and reliable, but provably secure and compliant with the regulations that govern financial
services in the markets we operate in. This is a hands-on role for someone who treats security
and compliance as core engineering concerns, not afterthoughts.
Responsibilities:
Payment Engineering
● Design, build, and maintain payment and money-movement services (card processing,
wallets, top-ups, settlements, refunds, and ledgering)
● Integrate and maintain payment gateways, card processors, and tokenization providers
● Build and harden financial ledger and reconciliation systems that keep balances
accurate and auditable
● Implement idempotent, fault-tolerant transaction flows that handle failures, retries, and
partial states correctly
Security & Fraud Prevention
● Design and enforce security controls across the payment stack, including encryption,
tokenization, and secure key management
● Build and tune fraud detection and prevention systems (device fingerprinting, risk
scoring, velocity checks, and rules engines)
● Conduct threat modeling and secure code reviews for payment-critical services
● Investigate and remediate security incidents affecting payment and customer data
Compliance & Regulation
● Ensure systems meet PCI DSS requirements and maintain compliance across the
payment environment
● Implement and maintain KYC, AML, and transaction-monitoring controls
● Translate regulatory requirements (CBN guidelines, PSD2/SCA, data protection laws
such as NDPR/GDPR) into concrete technical controls and engineering work
● Partner with leadership and external auditors during compliance assessments and
certifications
Collaboration
● Work closely with product managers, backend engineers, and infrastructure teams to
deliver secure, compliant features
● Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical guidance on payment and
security decisions
● Document systems, controls, and processes clearly for engineering and audit purposes
Requirements
● 4–7 years of backend engineering experience, with significant time spent on payment,
fintech, or financial systems
● Deep understanding of payment industry regulations and compliance, including PCI
DSS, KYC/AML, and SCA/strong customer authentication
● Hands-on experience building payment integrations (card processors, gateways,
tokenization, or wallet systems)
● Strong knowledge of application and data security: encryption, key management, secure
authentication, and secure API design
● Experience designing reliable, idempotent transaction systems and financial ledgers
● Proficiency with a modern backend language (Kotlin, Java, Go, or similar) and cloud
infrastructure (AWS preferred)
● Strong understanding of fraud prevention concepts and tooling
● Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup
environment
● Based in or able to work onsite in Lagos, Nigeria
● Available to start immediately
Nice to Have
● Experience with telecom, cross-border payments, or remittance products
● Familiarity with West African and emerging-market payment rails and regulatory
environments (e.g., CBN, GIMS/NIP, mobile money)
● Experience with event-driven architectures and high-throughput transaction pipelines
● Hands-on experience with Kotlin/Ktor, EKS/Kubernetes, or similar
● Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, PCIP, or equivalent)
● Experience supporting PCI DSS audits or other formal compliance assessments
What We Offer
● Full-time role at the core of a growing fintech and communications platform
● Ownership of payment and security systems that serve customers across multiple
markets
● Direct collaboration with engineering, product, and leadership
● Opportunity to shape the security and compliance posture of global digital services from
the ground up
