Job summary

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment such as trucks, trailers, loaders, excavators, and other diesel-powered machinery. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with safety and operational standards.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

 Inspection & Diagnostics:

  • Inspect heavy-duty vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Perform routine safety inspections to detect potential issues.


Repair & Maintenance:

  • Perform preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and tune-ups.
  • Repair or replace defective components including engines, brakes, suspension systems, transmissions, and hydraulics.
  • Overhaul diesel engines and other major mechanical systems when required.
  • Conduct welding and fabrication work as needed.



Equipment Testing:

  • Test vehicles and equipment after repairs to ensure proper functionality.
  • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer and safety standards.



Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain accurate service and repair records.

Report recurring mechanical issues to management.

Recommend replacement of equipment when repairs are no longer cost-effective.


Safety & Compliance:

  • Follow workplace safety procedures and use protective equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.



Parts & Inventory Management:

  • Identify required spare parts and submit requisitions.
  • Assist in managing inventory of tools and spare parts.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of equipment and materials.


Requirements:

  • Minimum SSCE.
  • 2 years of previous experience in a similar role.
