Job Summary

The Head of Legal is responsible for providing Legal Support, Legal Research, Administrative Support, Legal Advisory services, Secretarial Support, Records Management, and other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer. The Head of Legal reports to General Manager.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the mission statement, code of conduct, and further company-specific documents.
  • Provide accurate, quality, and timely legal advice on all significant management of real estate project procedures and project development, researching guidelines and policies of the government on the project development.
  • Regularly monitor compliance.
  • Monitor legal risk in real estate documentation and advise the company accordingly.
  • Ensure appropriate approvals are in place before transactions are executed.
  • Draft and negotiate terms and conditions of transactions.

  • Ensure legal due diligence during land/property acquisition in particular; Title investigation and local legislation.
  • Support legal and general advisory needs associated with the company’s portfolio.
  • Draft, approve, sign, seal, and ensure standardization (to the highest level) of legal documents such as Title transfer Deeds, Agreements of sale, Offer letters, Conveyance documents, Lease Deeds, License agreements, etc.
  • Monitoring and filling of completed contracts and other corporate documents.
  • Liaising with external counsel and follow-up with pending litigations
  • Represent the company at legal negotiations and at courts.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the legal service unit and company secretariat.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Act as the legal adviser to the heads of different departments with the task of minimizing the risks associated with decisions and optimizing legal opportunities.
  • Support the development of management engagement contracts and compensation terms.
  • Design and oversee the company’s policy and position on legal matters.
  • Prepare the agenda in consultation with the Chairman and the other documents for all the meetings of the board of directors of subsidiaries and parent company.
  • Arrange, with the consultation of the chairman, the annual and extraordinary general meetings of the company and attend such meetings to ensure compliance with the legal requirements.
  • Conduct thorough statistical/documentary research, source and verify important case intelligence, and examine the legal issues related to new products and services,
  • Research difficult tax issues and collaborates with the tax advisors engaged by the company to ensure compliance with tax responsibilities.
  • Ensure all court documents are in order and filed before the deadlines.
  • Responsible for compliance with the provisions of the Companies Law, rules, and bye-laws the company
  • Ensure that affairs of the company are managed in accordance with its objects contained in the articles of association and the provisions of the Companies Law
  • Support the development of management engagement contracts and compensation terms.
  • Supervise relationship management lawyers and daily monitor all cases and disputes before the court and tribunal.

 

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum academic qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Law. A Master’s degree will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the legal field
  • At least 3 years experience in a real estate space preferably in Lagos.
  • Strong experience in real estate law and industry knowledge that includes litigation, lease transactions, property management, purchase, and sales transactions.
  • Good understanding of foreclosure.
  • Solid experience in title insurance underwriting, curative, and claims.
  • Demonstrable competency in Legal Research and Advisory.
  • Knowledge of the local legal, judiciary, and administrative environment.
  • Experience running successful marketing campaigns is a plus.
  • A strong ability to develop and motivate a team, and to collaborate and act as a team player.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology tools such as Microsoft Office 365.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence.
  • Advanced sense of leadership and team spirit.
  • Great communication and presentation skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset.

 

 Location: Shapati - Lagos



Remuneration: N300,000 with bonuses
