Job Summary

MIM Finance Company is seeking a dedicated and skilled Legal Officer to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years of litigation experience, preferably in the financial services sector. As a Legal Officer, you will play a key role in providing legal support and assistance to the company, with a focus on handling litigation matters and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing and overseeing litigation matters involving the company, including but not limited to disputes with customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on relevant laws, regulations, and court decisions to support litigation strategies and legal arguments.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings, to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and procedures.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel and other relevant stakeholders to develop and execute litigation strategies, including settlement negotiations and courtroom representation.
  • Monitor and track the progress of ongoing litigation matters, and provide regular updates and reports to senior management on case developments and potential risks.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal issues, including contract interpretation, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate legal risks, and provide training and education to employees on legal matters as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the interests of the company and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Stay informed about changes to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, and proactively identify and address legal issues that may impact the company.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law from a reputable institution; additional qualifications such as a Master's degree or relevant certifications would be advantageous.
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years of litigation experience, preferably in the financial services sector or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian laws and court procedures, with the ability to effectively represent the company's interests in legal proceedings
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues and communicate them clearly and concisely
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and professionalism in all work products and interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
