Job Summary

MIM Finance Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal and Compliance Lead to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong legal background with a minimum of 5 years of experience in financial services, specifically with expertise in Central Bank of Nigeria compliance and regulatory requirements. The Legal and Compliance Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring that our company operates within legal and regulatory guidelines, while also developing and implementing compliance strategies to mitigate risk and promote ethical conduct.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to Central Bank of Nigeria regulations and other relevant legal requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of existing compliance policies and procedures to identify any areas for improvement or updates.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters, including but not limited to banking laws, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that new products, services, and business initiatives comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct internal audits and monitoring activities to identify and address any compliance issues or violations in a timely manner.
  • Stay informed about changes to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, and communicate updates to key stakeholders as needed.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders to address legal and compliance matters affectively
  • Develop and deliver training programs on compliance-related topics to enhance employee awareness and understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in regulatory examinations, inquiries, and audits, and ensure timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on legal and compliance risks, trends, and best practices, and make recommendations for mitigating potential risks.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law from a reputable institution; additional qualifications such as a Master's degree or relevant certifications would be advantageous.
  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, preferably with a focus on financial services and regulatory compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of Central Bank of Nigeria regulations and compliance requirements, with a proven track record of successfully navigating regulatory challenges.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and apply them to practical business scenarios.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate legal and compliance issues to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing teams and driving cross-functional collaboration to achieve compliance objectives
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of compliance and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
