Head of Information Technology

Responsibilities:

• Be proactive and effective in advocating the use of appropriate technology solutions across the work of the UPG Community
• Provide leadership both internally and externally on matters related to information technology
• Identify and act on opportunities to improve and update digital ecosystems
• Proficient in setting up and managing workplace productivity tools, including databases
• Developing and managing IT policy and best practice guides that are consistent with the mission of the organisation
• Knowledge of Learning Management systems is an advantage
• Website management, specifically sites using WordPress and WordPress plugins
  
• Proficiency with using mainstream digital tools, including apps
• Understand and implement processes to monitor and protect network and data security
• Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems administration
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software
• Train employees on technology-related matters; provide technical support when needed
• Develop and execute disaster procedures, and maintain data backups
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree is required in computer science or information technology. A master’s degree is a strong advantage.
• The candidate cares about the mission of the organization.
• Prior experience working in a similar technology leadership role is an asset
• Prior experience working with a community is a strong advantage
• Strong coordination and/or project management skills
• Ability to work in ambiguous settings; Ability to work alone and in a team
• Be able to work with sensitive material and keep activities confidential
• In particular, the ability to work under pressure and under tight deadlines
• The ability to work on your own initiative
• Any other expertise/professional training is an added advantage
• Proven leadership skills are an advantage
• Strong knowledge of current issues related to technology and society
