Job summary
Chariot Messenger is hiring a Field Operations Officer to run the day-to-day operations of our electric bike fleet and hire-purchase program in Lagos. Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
- Bike assembly & rider handover: Assemble bikes at the storage facility, run quality checks, and manage handovers when onboarding new riders.
- Rider & guarantor verification: Run KYC end-to-end: ID checks, guarantor visits, reference calls. No bike leaves the facility without your sign-off.
- Swap station monitoring: Regular physical visits to our partner swap stations (Lekki, Ikoyi, and expansion sites). Check battery inventory, station condition, and partner relationships. Escalate issues same-day.
- Data & record keeping: Maintain accurate daily records: swap counts, payment logs, bike condition, incident reports. Deliver a weekly operations summary to the CEO every Monday.
- Hire-purchase collections: Track daily rider payments, follow up on any missed payment within 24 hours, and maintain the collection ledger. Our current active rider has a 100% payment record — your job is to protect and extend that standard.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years in field operations, fleet management, asset finance collections, or logistics operations
- Background at a microfinance bank, asset-lease mobility company, ride-hailing/dispatch operations team, or logistics operator is a strong plus
- Comfortable riding a bike or willing to learn; you'll be moving across Lagos daily
- Solid Google Sheets/Excel skills: record-keeping is non-negotiable
- High-integrity operator: you handle verification and payment follow-up; we'll verify you the way you'll verify riders
- Firm but respectful communicator: Nigerian collections is a relationship skill, not enforcement
- Self-starter who works well without daily supervision
What Success Looks Like in 6 Months:
- 98%+ hire-purchase collection rate maintained across the rider base
- Zero bikes released without complete rider + guarantor verification
- All swap stations visited on schedule with issues logged and resolved
- Weekly operations report delivered every Monday, on time, every time
Benefits:
- Competitive salary within Lagos market range for the role
- Transport allowance (or an assigned Chariot bike as your work vehicle)
- Performance-linked monthly bonus tied to collection rate and operational discipline
- Direct access to and mentorship from the founder
- A ground-floor seat at a company building physical infrastructure across Nigeria
- Growth path into Operations Manager as the fleet scales
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
