Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Functionally report to the Branch Lead Clinical Services
- Administratively report to the Managing Director
- Examining diagnosing and treating patient conditions and disorders of the genitourinary organs and tracts.
- Documenting and reviewing patient history.
- Review and advise In-patients referred by hospital specialist colleagues for assessment, within a timeframe appropriate to the clinical circumstances.
- Performing abdominal, pelvic, or retroperitoneal surgeries when necessary.
- Be available to consult with the Medical Officer/Registrar/House Surgeon by telephone, or be called back to assist the Medical Officer/ Registrar/House Surgeon or other members of the Team.
- Treating lower urinary tract dysfunctions.
- To conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes.
- Ensure comprehensive, accurate, and concise medical records are collected and maintained for patients appropriately signed and dated with a legible entry in the patient’s medical record upon the patient’s attendance at the clinic.
- Contribute to quality patient care by participating in case planning which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, In-hospital care, and discharge planning.
- Order
investigations for surgical treatment, postoperative monitoring, and
discharge for all patients' care.
- Participate in clinical audit and quality programs as appropriate
- To be "on-call" or participate in shift rosters is a requirement of the position
- Teach senior registrars, registrars, house surgeons, nurses, and nurse assistants as appropriate.
- Manage the administrative requirements of the hospital and patient care including ensuring discharge summaries and medico-legal correspondence are completed with no delay.
- Be aware of and adhere to all Lily Hospital policies and procedures in reference to clinical practice.
- Coordinates the departmental activities with those of the hospital.
- Ensure accomplishment of quality on–the–job training in the department/unit under him/her.
- Participate in clinical audits
and quality programs as appropriate.
- Ensuring consistent and accurate medical record-keeping practices.
- Ensure proper credentialing of all patients before going to the theatre for surgery.
- Comply with all the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation
(NDPR) 2019.
Requirements:
- The job holder must have a license to practice medicine from the Nigerian Medical and Dental Association and must hold a specialist qualification in Urology.
- Knowledge of Clinical Surgery and other specialist areas of surgical practice such as oncology, pathology, uro-radiology uro – uro-tumatology, and some general surgery.
- The job holder must have good hand-eye coordination, stamina, and empathy for patients.
- The job holder must have a working knowledge of global quality assurance, clinical audit principles, and processes and must exhibit a commitment towards continuous quality improvement.
- Familiarity with cultural and religious concerns of patients, and current legislation on patient rights.
- Job holders must be empathetic and portray a caring and professional manner in all aspects of work.
- Minimum of 5-7 years cognate working experience.
- Must show evidence of competence in the management of urological conditions and evidence of active participation in surgical research and continuous professional development.
- The job holder must have good communication skills, a strong ability to work well under extreme pressure, self-discipline, and excellent long-term concentration.
- MDCN License/Fellow of the West Africa College of Surgeons.
