Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure Linux server environments (primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS or Ubuntu/Debian).
- Perform regular system monitoring, performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimisation. Maintain system health and troubleshoot complex issues across the stack.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform to streamline deployment and operations.
- Implement and enforce security best practices, perform vulnerability patching, manage access controls (LDAP/Kerberos), and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Configure and manage network services (DNS, DHCP, HTTP/S, SMTP, SSH) and work with network engineers on firewall rules, load balancers, and routing.
- Manage and maintain storage solutions (e.g., NFS, SAN, LVM) and implement robust backup and disaster recovery procedures.
- Manage and optimise system monitoring tools (Prometheus, Nagios, Zabbix) and centralised logging systems (ELK stack/Splunk).
- Mentor junior administrators and create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all operational procedures, infrastructure components, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical production systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Linux System Administrator, DevOps Engineer, or similar role.
- Expert-level knowledge of the Linux operating system, kernel, and command-line tools.
- Proficient in at least one major scripting language (Bash, Python, or Perl).
- Strong practical experience with configuration management tools (Ansible preferred).
- Experience managing virtualised environments (VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V) and/or public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Solid understanding and experience with container technologies (Docker and Kubernetes).
- Experience administering web servers (Apache, Nginx) and application servers.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, LPI, AWS/Azure/GCP certifications) are a plus
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) is preferred
- Database administration experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) is a plus
- Experience in a high-traffic, 24/7 production environment is a plus
