Senior Chartist/Trader
Job summary
The Senior Chartist/Trader is both the operational backbone and the technology custodian of our trading operation. You will own two things simultaneously: the daily operational rhythm that keeps the trading floor running correctly, and the technology stack that keeps the infrastructure healthy. This is not a steppingstone to becoming a trader. We need someone who genuinely finds professional satisfaction in running disciplined operations and clean technology infrastructure. If that is you, this role offers a clearly defined path to Head of Trading Operations within 2-3 years as we scale.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
Daily Operations Management:
- Own the daily operational rhythm — morning data verification, platform checks, end-of-day ingestion, evening brief review — without requiring escalation to the CEO
- Act as first line of accountability when team members miss scheduled tasks
- Maintain the daily operations log and produce a weekly performance report for the CEO
Technology Stack Management:
- Own the day-to-day health of the company's technology infrastructure — Windows Server VPS environment, Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive), automated data pipelines, and the trading operations platform
- Monitor automated processes for failures: troubleshoot independently and escalate complex issues to the technical lead with clear diagnostic information
- Manage user access, file permissions, and folder architecture across the team
- Coordinate with the technical lead on platform builds and infrastructure upgrades — acting as the bridge between technology and the trading floor
- Maintain technology vendor relationships and ensure subscriptions and licenses are managed proactively
- Document all technology systems and maintain runbooks so critical processes are not dependent on any single person
Data Integrity:
- Own the data integrity framework — ensuring all market data is downloaded, named, stored, and available correctly and on time
- Enforce file naming and folder structure standards rigorously across the team
- Coordinate with data providers on delivery issues and quality problems
Protocol Compliance & Team Coordination:
- Serve as custodian of the operational protocol handbook — ensure all processes are followed consistently and document deviations when they occur
- Run the weekly team meeting — agenda, facilitation, documentation of decisions and action items
- Monitor trainee progression milestones and escalate to the CEO when milestones are at risk
- Facilitate cross-training to eliminate single points of failure across the team
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain all operational and technology documentation in current, accurate condition
- Build the audit trail required for regulatory compliance as the firm moves toward formal fund management structures
- Manage vendor contracts, subscription renewals, and external party relationships at the operational level
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
- Professional qualification preferred: CFA (any level), ACCA, ICAN, CIS, or a recognised technology certification (Microsoft, AWS, CompTIA)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, complex formulas, data manipulation
- Administration-level proficiency in Microsoft 3ó5 — Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, user management
- 5-7 years of professional experience in financial services operations, technology operations, or a hybrid role combining both
- Demonstrated hands-on experience managing technology tools, systems, or infrastructure in a professional context
- Track record of running or enforcing a demanding daily operational rhythm in a time-sensitive environment
- Experience holding colleagues accountable to established processes and standards
Technology Competency — What We Mean: We are not looking for a software developer. We are looking for someone who is genuinely technology-comfortable:
- Comfortable managing a Windows Server or cloud environment — user access, scheduled tasks, basic troubleshooting
- Understands what an automated data pipeline does: can monitor it, identify failure, and communicate clearly to a developer
- Familiar with Python, VBA, batch scripts, or similar — does not need to write code but can read a simple script and understand its purpose
- Disciplined and systematic about large-scale file management, naming conventions, and folder architecture
- Can produce clear runbooks and system documentation that non-technical colleagues can follow
The Ideal Person: Beyond experience and qualifications, the right person for this role has a specific professional disposition:
- Operational Instinct: genuinely finds satisfaction in running clean, well-designed processes
- Technology Curiosity: engages with systems proactively; when something breaks, wants to understand why
- Direct Communicator: comfortable holding peers to standards without being confrontational or evasive
- Systems Thinker: when something fails, immediately thinks about systematic prevention, not just the immediate fix
- High Integrity: trusted with sensitive operational and financial information at all times
- Steady under Pressure: calm and organised when technology fails, or operational issues escalate simultaneously
- Self-directed: once expectations are established, executed consistently without daily supervision
