Safety Officer

Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and monitor company-wide safety policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with local laws and best industry practices.
• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety protocols at all project sites.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, or near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
• Organize and conduct safety training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency drills for site workers and staff.
• Maintain updated records of safety incidents, audits, trainings, and safety permits.
• Collaborate with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and external agencies to promote health and safety compliance.
• Ensure all construction equipment and machinery meet safety requirements and are maintained accordingly.
• Monitor adherence to environmental standards and report any violations.
• Advise management on health and safety legislative requirements and emerging risks.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience as a Safety Officer in the construction or real estate sector.
• Certification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, HSE Level 3 or equivalent).
• Sound knowledge of Nigerian health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
• Strong analytical, observational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple sites or tasks.
• Proficient in report writing and the use of safety documentation tools.
• Physically fit and willing to conduct fieldwork regularly.
