Registered Staff nurse midwife

Responsibilities:

• Working within a team of professional midwives headed by a Consultant Obstetrician.
• Punctuality, honesty, loyalty, kindness and empathy are essential attributes.
• Conducting antenatal and postnatal clinics and coordinating management with the doctors.
• Monitoring labour and conducting normal deliveries.
• Know the difference between normal and abnormal and call for assistance with complicated deliveries.
• Timely preparation of theatre for Caesarean section if necessary. Check that an autoclaved drum is always present when you start your shift.
• Managing in-patients professionally. Charting of regular observations and drawing the attention of the doctors to abnormal observations.
• Giving in-patients their medications as and when due and charting appropriately.
• Keep the patient’s charts organized with lab results and ward round notes in chronological order.
• Write detailed handover notes at the end of your shift and hand over to the next shift.
• Every delivery or Caesarean section should be entered in the delivery book by the midwife on duty before going home.
• Stay updated with advances in nursing and midwifery through training and education on-line.

Requirements:

• Certification as a registered nurse and a registered midwife.
• Previous midwifery experience preferred.
• Good communication skills and team working abilities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Working conditions:

• You will work 3 shifts in 24 hours with adequate days off.
• You will be provided with safety equipment and you should maintain the hospital environment for patient safety and your own.
• You should expect to stand or sit for long periods and occasionally lift heavy objects while adhering to safety measures.
• Free standard hospital accommodation can be arranged if you are not resident.
  
  

Salary and benefits: NGN 50,000 per month which could increase as time goes on.

• Annual leave of 2 weeks per annum, or payment in lieu as preferred.
