The Dental Therapist at OHAI Clinic is responsible for delivering high-quality preventive and basic restorative dental treatments, supporting the dentists with clinical procedures, educating patients on oral health, and ensuring superior patient experience in line with OHAI Clinic’s standard of care. The role requires precision, empathy, technical competence, and commitment to modern digital dentistry.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Perform preventive dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, fluoride application, and sealants.
- Provide basic restorative care such as temporary fillings, atraumatic restorative treatment (ART), and simple extractions (as allowed by Nigerian regulations).
- Conduct thorough oral examinations and charting; document findings accurately.
- Assist dentists during complex procedures such as root canals, extractions, oral surgeries, and orthodontic treatments.
- Take and process digital radiographs (intraoral sensors, OPG/CBCT referrals).
- Perform dental impressions (conventional and digital if trained).
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials according to infection control standards.
- Monitor patient comfort, safety, and vital signs during clinical care.
- Apply knowledge of sterilisation to maintain aseptic environments.
Patient Care & Education:
- Provide personalised oral health counselling to patients, children, and families.
- Demonstrate proper brushing, flossing, interdental cleaning, and home care techniques.
- Educate patients on caries prevention, diet, oral hygiene routines, and post-treatment instructions.
- Promote OHAI Clinic’s preventive dentistry philosophy and premium patient experience.
Digital Dentistry & Records:
- Enter accurate treatment notes in OpenDental and OpenEMR.
- Assist with digital workflow tasks (intraoral scans, photography, documentation).
- Maintain accurate patient records according to clinical and legal standards.
Equipment & Infection Control:
- Adhere strictly to sterilisation protocols (Class B autoclave, instrument processing workflow).
- Maintain dental chairs, compressors, suction units, and hygiene equipment.
- Track consumables, dental materials, and stock levels; report shortages promptly.
- Participate in routine equipment checks and maintenance.
Administrative & Team Support:
- Assist in patient scheduling, follow-up calls, and treatment reminders.
- Support dentists in managing patient flow and reducing waiting times.
- Participate in clinical meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Uphold OHAI Clinic’s service standards, communication style, and patient courtesy protocols.
Requirements:
- National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dental Therapy.
- Valid license from the Dental Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria (DTRBN).
- Minimum of 1–3 years clinical experience in a dental practice or health facility.
- Demonstrated competence in preventive dentistry and patient education.
- Experience with digital dental tools is an added advantage (intraoral scanners, digital X-rays, digital records).
- Strong clinical skills in scaling, polishing, and preventive care.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
- Excellent patient communication and counselling ability.
- Confidence, empathy, and professionalism.
- Ability to work with digital systems and adapt to new technology.
- Teamwork, time management, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to continuous learning and excellence in service delivery.
Working Hours and Conditions:
- Full-time position.
- Rotational shifts, including weekends if required.
- Professional uniform and appearance standards must be maintained.
- Work involves prolonged standing, patient contact, and clinical procedures.
