Our Client, a Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organisational concerned with the promotion and protection of social and economic rights in relation to healthy and better living in Nigeria, requires the service of a qualified candidate to fill the role of Program Officer/Community Organiser The Program Officer/Community Organiser will lead community engagement and program implementation efforts that promote inclusive urban development, improved living standards and social rights in low-income communities. The role involves working directly with communities affected by poor housing, displacement or limited access to social services. Helping design and deliver programs that advocate for better living conditions, urban resilience and equitable development. The ideal candidate must have an academic or practical background in Urban and Regional Planning, Community Development or Social Policy and can effectively translate data and field realities into actionable advocacy, planning and community empowerment strategies.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Program Planning & Implementation:
- Participate in the design, planning and execution of community-focused development and housing programs
- Support project mapping, needs assessment and baseline data collection in communities
- Coordinate community outreach, stakeholders meetings and advocacy activities.
- Monitor and document progress of urban and social development programs to ensure quality and alignment with goals.
- Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity reports for internal and donor use.
Community Engagement & Mobilization:
- Build strong working relationships with residents, local leaders and partner organisations ∙
- Facilitate town hall meetings, community mapping sessions, and particularly planning exercises.
- Document and communicate community priorities, success stories and emerging challenges.
- Represent the organisation at community and government forums related to housing, urban development or resettlement.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL):
- Track and analyse project indicators related to housing, sanitation and social well-being.
- Contribute to research, case studies and field assessments that inform evidence-based advocacy.
Partnership & Resource Mobilisation:
- Support the development of concept notes and proposals for urban and community development initiatives.
- Identify and engage relevant agencies, including urban planning authorities, housing corporations and civil society partners
- Contribute to communications and visibility materials by sharing field stories, photos and data that reflect community realities.
Organisational Support:
- Assist with internal learning sessions, community feedback processes and other organisational activities that enhance impact and accountability.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning, Town Planning, Development Studies or related field.
- 2 years’ professional and or volunteer experience in project implementation, community development, housing, urban projects or related NGO work.
- Understanding of urban planning principles, informal settlements and basic land use management.
- Familiarity with social and economic rights issues related to housing displacement and urban poverty.
- Strong analytical and field data collection skills (surveys, mapping, need assessment)
- Ability to coordinate community engagement sessions and participatory planning activities
- Basic knowledge of project management and MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning) with impeccable writing skills for reports, proposals, and storytelling.
- Competence in drafting proposals, concept notes and simple project budgets.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with data collection tools is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to cultural and social dynamics ∙
- Proficiency in any of the 3 indigenous languages (knowledge of the Egun language will be an added advantage)
- Willingness to conduct field visits and work occasionally on Saturdays when required
- Preference for candidates residing within close proximity to Ojodu Berger
Location: Ojodu Berger, Lagos, Nigeria
Remuneration: NGN 250,000 - 300,000
