Job summary

The product owner will translate hospital clinical, business, operational, administrative, financial, insurance, inventory, reporting, and user workflows into clear product requirements for Rednoxx’s EMR/EHR platform. The role covers clinical workflows such as registration, triage, consultation, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, inpatient care, theatre, discharge, and clinical documentation, as well as business and operations workflows such as billing, NHIA/HMO, inventory, reporting, administration, revenue cycle, service configuration, approvals, dashboards, claims support, and user feedback. The Product Owner will work closely with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory staff, radiology staff, billing officers, finance teams, NHIA/HMO desk officers, records staff, administrators, store officers, Developers, QA Engineers, the Technical PM/Product Owner, and implementation teams to ensure the product reflects real hospital workflows and supports safe, efficient, accountable, and user-friendly operations.

Responsibilities:
Workflow Mapping and Requirements Gathering:
  • Study, document, and validate clinical, business, operational, administrative, financial, insurance, inventory, and reporting workflows.
  • Map workflows for registration, triage, consultation, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, nursing, inpatient care, theatre, billing, NHIA/HMO, inventory, reporting, administration, and discharge.
  • Identify user pain points, process gaps, bottlenecks, duplicate steps, revenue leakages, workflow risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Engage hospital users to understand actual work practices and convert them into structured product requirements.

Product Requirements and Backlog Management:
  • Convert user needs, workflow gaps, business rules, and implementation feedback into clear product requirements.
  • Prepare user stories, acceptance criteria, feature descriptions, workflow notes, business rules, and functional specifications.
  • Ensure requirements are clear enough for developers to implement and QA engineers to test.
  • Prioritise backlog items based on patient safety, operational impact, financial impact, user need, implementation urgency, and management priorities.
  • Maintain issue logs, decision logs, change logs, open questions, and module-level product documentation.


Clinical, Business and Operations Product Ownership:

  • Support product definition for clinical modules including registration, triage, consultation, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, inpatient care, theatre, referrals, discharge, and clinical documentation.
  • Support product definition for billing, NHIA/HMO, revenue cycle, inventory, stores, reporting, administration, user management, approvals, and dashboards.
  • Document billing rules, service tariffs, payment processes, receipts, claims, authorisations, approvals, inventory requests, stock movement, and management reports.
  • Validate system outputs such as bills, invoices, receipts, claims summaries, stock reports, revenue reports, dashboards, and clinical workflow outputs.
  • Capture feedback from clinical, administrative, finance, billing, insurance, stores, records, and management users.

Product Validation, UAT and Release Support:

  • Review product demos and confirm whether delivered features meet approved requirements and user expectations.
  • Support QA Engineers to develop test cases that reflect approved workflows, business rules, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing with hospital users and implementation teams.
  • Prepare UAT scripts, acceptance checklists, user feedback summaries, issue logs, and validation notes.
  • Validate resolved issues before release or deployment.
  • Provide product input into release notes, training materials, go-live readiness, and post-go-live stabilisation.

Stakeholder Engagement and Documentation:
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to collect requirements, validate workflows, review demos, and clarify product issues.
  • Translate user complaints, enhancement requests, operational issues, and implementation feedback into structured product actions.
  • Prepare product requirement notes, workflow documents, user stories, acceptance criteria, change logs, decision logs, and module-level documentation.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog review, QA review, product review, release readiness, training, and implementation meetings.


Requirements:

  • A minimum of an HND, or equivalent practical experience, in health informatics, computer science, information technology, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, medical laboratory science, radiography, business administration, accounting, finance, product management, business analysis, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in product ownership, business analysis, healthtech implementation, hospital operations, software implementation, workflow documentation, or enterprise software support.
  • Ability to document workflows, write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and prepare clear product requirements.
  • Good understanding of hospital clinical, operational, administrative, financial, or insurance workflows
  • Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with EMR, EHR, HIMS, hospital information systems, ERP, insurance systems, inventory systems, or healthtech products.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflows such as consultation, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, inpatient care, theatre, and discharge.
  • Knowledge of business workflows such as billing, NHIA/HMO, revenue cycle, claims, service tariffs, inventory, reporting, and administration.
  • Experience supporting UAT, product implementation, training, go-live, or post-go-live support.
  • Familiarity with Jira, ClickUp, Trello, Notion, Confluence, Miro, Lucidchart, Excel, Google Workspace, or similar tools.


Skills and Competencies:

  •  Ability to convert user needs and workflow gaps into clear product requirements
  • Ability to map clinical, business, operational, and administrative workflows
  • Ability to write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items
  • Understanding of hospital service delivery, clinical documentation, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, inpatient, nursing, and theatre workflow
  • Understanding of billing, NHIA/HMO, inventory, revenue cycle, reporting, administration, and approvals
  • Ability to engage doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab staff, finance, officers, billing teams, administrators, and management users
  • Ability to prioritise and track product backlog items based on value, risk, urgency, and feasibility
  • Ability to support testing, UAT, validation, and defect clarification
  • Strong ability to prepare workflow notes, PRDs, user stories, change logs, and decision records
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders


Key Deliverables:

  • Clinical, business, operational, and administrative workflow maps.
  • Product requirement documents for assigned EMR/EHR modules.
  • User stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritised backlog items.
  • Business rule documentation for tariffs, payments, claims, approvals, inventory, reports, and clinical workflows.
  • User feedback summaries, issue logs, decision logs, and change logs.
  • UAT scripts, acceptance checklists, and validation notes.
  • Reporting and dashboard requirement notes.
  • Product input for release notes, training materials, and go-live readiness.


Performance Indicators:

  • Quality Workflows are clearly documented, validated, and understandable
  • User stories and acceptance criteria are clear, complete, testable, and actionable
  • Backlog items are properly prioritised and aligned with user needs
  • User feedback is captured accurately and converted into product actions
  • Clinical, business, billing, NHIA/HMO, inventory, reporting, and revenue workflows are properly reflected in the product
  • UAT sessions are properly supported and issues are tracked to closure
  • Product documents are complete, organised, and useful to technical and non-technical teams
  • Works effectively with Developers, QA Engineers, technical PMs, CTOs, and implementation teams


Probation Expectations:

  • Within the first 90 days, the Product Owner should be able to understand Rednoxx’s EMR/EHR modules, document at least two assigned workflows, prepare user stories and acceptance criteria, 
  • Support backlog refinement and work effectively with Developers and QA Engineers,
  • Support UAT or product validation for at least one module, and maintain clear product documentation, feedback logs, and issue records.
