ROLE OVERVIEW
A leading MEP engineering consultancy firm in Lagos is seeking an experienced and technically grounded MEP Project Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact between clients and the engineering team, driving project delivery from initiation through testing, commissioning, and handover. This is a senior leadership role requiring both deep MEP technical knowledge and strong client management capability.

Location: Lagos, Nigeria (with occasional site visits outside Lagos)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning & Initiation
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in coordination with clients and engineers
- Conduct kick-off meetings and brief the project team
- Develop project execution plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures (WBS)
- Establish budgets based on allocated resources
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies documented in an action risk register
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as primary point of contact between the client and the firm
- Manage client expectations regarding timelines, costs, and design outcomes
- Facilitate meetings, presentations, and design reviews
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities
Technical Oversight
- Confirm that approved design documents (drawings, specifications, calculations) meet client expectations
- Ensure clear communication of technical requirements across all teams
- Coordinate between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines to avoid clashes
- Oversee BIM/CAD deliverables and quality of documentation
Budget & Financial Management
- Monitor project costs against approved budget
- Prepare and manage change orders
- Liaise with the accounts department for prompt invoicing and track accounts receivable
- Report on project profitability and financial performance
Schedule Management
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules
- Track progress and identify delays early
- Coordinate submission deadlines for permits and regulatory approvals
- Manage design phase timelines: schematic, design development, and construction documents
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Manage engineers, designers, external consultants, and CAD technicians
- Allocate tasks and monitor team performance
- Conduct regular internal design coordination meetings
- Provide performance management and feedback for project team members
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain design logs, meeting minutes, and progress reports
- Prepare delivery audit reports for the Chief Operating Officer
- Prepare monthly Project Manager-Led Effect and Margin Forecast (PEMF) project controls
Construction Administration (CA)
- Ensure timely engineer review of contractor shop drawings and MEP submittals
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from contractors
- Conduct site visits to verify MEP installations align with design intent
- Manage change requests and variations
- Build and maintain client relationships for repeat business
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Oversee testing and commissioning plans
- Verify MEP system performance against design specifications
- Coordinate final documentation including as-built drawings and O&M manual handover
- Coordinate training for the client’s facilities team by the contractor
Business Development Support
- Assist in preparing proposals and fee estimates for new projects
- Support firm leadership in identifying new market opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in MEP project management
- Demonstrated experience managing full project lifecycle from design through commissioning and handover
- COREN registration is an added advantage
- PMP certification is an added advantage
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
- Strong understanding of MEP systems and engineering principles (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection)
- Proficiency in project management tools, including Microsoft Project
- BIM/Revit coordination knowledge
- Contract and risk management skills
- Excellent communication, client management, and leadership skills
- Strong financial acumen - budget tracking, change order management, and reporting
