Job summary

Opes Manus Resources Ltd is building a portfolio of small and medium hydropower projects across Nigeria, starting with brownfield retrofits and greenfield sites. We are looking for a motivated and detail-orientated hydropower site assessment analyst to support the early-stage identification, technical evaluation, and due diligence of potential hydropower sites (primarily existing dams and rivers). This is a field-orientated role ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience who enjoys travel and hands-on technical assessment work.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site visits and technical assessments of existing dams and river sites across Nigeria for potential brownfield retrofits or greenfield development.
  • Collect and analyse hydrological data, flow measurements, head calculations, and site photographs.
  • Assess the renovation and upgrade potential of existing dams (civil condition, outlet works, spillways, etc.).
  • Support the preparation of site assessment reports, preliminary feasibility studies, and power output estimates.
  • Assist in updating hydrological models and flow duration curves.
  • Coordinate with local communities, River Basin Development Authorities, and government agencies during site visits.
  • Support the Technical Lead in preparing technical documentation for investors, REA, SPIN, and NERC applications.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of solar-hybrid opportunities where relevant (solar knowledge is a plus).
  • Maintain a database of assessed sites with technical findings and recommendations.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in renewable energy project development, site assessment, or hydropower/dam evaluation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Nigeria (fieldwork will be a major part of the role).
  • Basic knowledge of hydropower principles, hydrology, and site assessment methodologies.
  • Experience with solar PV systems is a strong advantage but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and basic engineering software (AutoCAD, GIS, or RETScreen is a plus).
  • Strong report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations.
