Job Summary

The Internal Audit and Risk Management Officer plays a critical role in safeguarding the financial institution’s integrity by evaluating internal controls, identifying financial and operational risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role involves conducting audits and supporting the implementation of a robust enterprise risk management (ERM) framework to ensure that risks are proactively identified, assessed, and mitigated.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Internal Audit:

  • Plan and execute risk-based internal audits of financial, operational, and compliance activities.
  • Review lending, investment, treasury, and other core banking operations for compliance and efficiency.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and cybersecurity controls.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports with actionable recommendations for senior management.
  • Conduct follow-up audits to verify that corrective actions are implemented.


Risk Management:

  • Support the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor key financial, credit, operational, market, and liquidity risks.
  • Maintain the institutional risk register and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs).
  • Assist in the development of risk mitigation strategies and ensure business continuity planning is in place.
  • Facilitate risk awareness training across departments.


Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with financial sector regulations, including central bank guidelines, IFRS.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and risk committees as required.
  • Monitor emerging risks and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the institution.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree/HND in Accounting, Finance, Banking, or a related field.
  • Professional certification, such as CIA, CPA, ACCA, CRMA, or FRM, is an added advantage 
  • 3–5 years of experience in internal audit and/or risk management within the financial sector.
  • Solid understanding of financial sector operations, products (loans, deposits, investments), and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with audit standards (e.g., IIA), COSO framework, and risk management principles.
  • Experience with core banking systems, risk management software, and data analytics tools.
  • Exposure to digital banking, cybersecurity audits, or fintech risk environments (preferred).

Remuneration: NGN 400,000
