Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Delivery

• Oversee architecture, code quality, and release velocity across all product lines (ASA, Azar, ACPO, VendorizeME, TheMove, and TheMove Business, ACPO).
• Establish best-in-class engineering practices — CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, observability, and DevOps automation.
• Drive technical execution of new features, ensuring on-time, bug-free delivery aligned with product OKRs.
• Collaborate with U.S.-based product and design teams to localize features and integrate global engineering standards.

Team Building & Mentorship

• Recruit, mentor, and develop A-level engineers (frontend, backend, mobile, and AI).
• Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and excellence, using measurable engineering KPIs (velocity, reliability, maintainability).
• Guide engineers through design thinking, documentation, and performance reviews.
• Lead technical onboarding and ensure smooth collaboration across distributed time zones.

Product & Cross-Functional Alignment

• Partner with Product, Design, and Growth teams to translate business goals into technical deliverables.
• Balance technical debt vs. speed; drive prioritization of features with product managers.
• Ensure every product release is data-instrumented, scalable, and measurable.

System Architecture & Innovation

• Define and evolve system architecture for multi-product integration (user accounts, payments, analytics, and AI services).
• Implement API-first and modular architectures enabling cross-product synergy.
• Introduce AI, automation, and analytics pipelines where relevant (recommendations, risk scoring, personalization).

Security, Reliability, and Compliance

• Enforce robust security standards across all codebases (encryption, data access, API security).
• Guarantee uptime, scalability, and performance of key user-facing systems.
• Collaborate with compliance and ops teams on data privacy (NDPR/GDPR) and regulatory requirements.

• The engineering organization delivers on roadmaps across 7+ active products with consistent velocity and uptime.
• Codebases are standardized, modular, and production-grade.
• Strong CI/CD, QA automation, and performance monitoring are in place.
• The local engineering culture mirrors Silicon Valley's standards of autonomy, craftsmanship, and precision.
• Junior engineers are mentored into independent, high-output contributors.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of engineering experience, including 2–4 years in technical or people leadership.
• Proven success in building or scaling high-traffic consumer or fintech platforms in Africa or globally.
• Prior experience at top African startups (e.g., Jumia, M-KOPA, OPay, Andela, Flutterwave, Interswitch, etc.).
• Strong background in Node.js, TypeScript, Python, React/Next.js, React Native, or similar modern stacks.
• Experience managing AWS/GCP-based cloud infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of API design, databases (Postgres, MongoDB), caching, and event-driven architecture.
• Track record of shipping fast, scalable, and maintainable products
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML integration, recommendation systems, or analytics pipelines (Preferred)
• Experience in multi-tenant architectures or platform unification across brands  (Preferred)
• Exposure to U.S. or EU product teams, remote collaboration, and agile methodologies  (Preferred)
