Accounting Advisor

Responsibilities:

• Review and validate Clerk's AI-generated outputs: transaction categorizations, journal entries, financial statements, and tax calculations
• Handle escalated accounting questions from users that the AI cannot confidently answer
• Review and update the knowledge base entries covering GAAP, IFRS, Nigerian tax law (PAYE, pension, NHF), and common accounting practices
• Identify patterns in AI errors and work with the engineering team to improve accuracy
• Advise on Nigerian-specific accounting and tax compliance requirements
• Support the development of the "accountant channel" — helping us understand what small accounting firms need and how Clerk can serve them

Requirements:

• Experience working with or advising small businesses in Nigeria.
• Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar).
• Currently running or working in a small accounting practice.
• Interest in fintech or AI-powered tools.
• You hold a recognized accounting qualification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent).
• You have practical experience with Nigerian accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory deductions (PAYE, pension, NHF).
• You understand double-entry bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and bank reconciliation.
• You can explain accounting concepts in simple, non-technical language to small business owners.
• You are open-minded about AI and interested in how technology can improve accounting workflows.
• You are detail-oriented and take accuracy seriously.
