Mechanical Technician

Responsibilities:

• Installation & Setup: Assist in the installation and setup of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Ensure equipment is installed according to technical specifications and safety standards. Test newly installed systems and equipment to ensure proper functionality.
• Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment to prevent breakdowns. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, including identifying faults in engines, motors, pumps, conveyors, and other machinery. Repair or replace defective components and ensure the equipment is restored to optimal working conditions. Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments to perform repairs and adjustments.
• Inspection & Diagnostics: Conduct regular inspections of mechanical equipment to assess its condition and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Monitor and track performance of mechanical systems, identifying areas for improvement or early signs of wear. Perform detailed diagnostics to identify mechanical issues and determine the best course of action for repairs.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used. Prepare reports on equipment condition, repairs, and maintenance schedules. Document any recurring issues or trends that may require long-term solutions.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance or repairs. Ensure that machinery and equipment are functioning in a safe and reliable manner to prevent accidents or hazards. Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions that may pose risks to personnel or operations.
• Collaboration & Support: Collaborate with engineers, operators, and other technicians to resolve mechanical issues quickly and efficiently. Provide technical support to other departments as needed, offering guidance on the proper use and maintenance of mechanical systems. Assist in the training of junior technicians or apprentices when necessary.
• Upgrades & Improvements: Suggest improvements to enhance equipment performance, efficiency, and reliability. Assist in the implementation of machinery upgrades and modifications. Participate in the testing of new equipment and machinery to evaluate their performance.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (Technical or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering or related field preferred).
• 2-5 years of proven experience as a mechanical technician or in a similar technical role.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools, maintenance software, and mechanical repair techniques.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems (for machinery that includes electrical components).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and precision in repairs and maintenance.
• Ability to use a wide range of mechanical tools and instruments effectively.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and report issues clearly.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment..

Working Conditions:

• Typically works in a manufacturing, industrial, or workshop setting.
• May involve working with heavy machinery, power tools, and hazardous materials (appropriate safety measures should always be followed).
• Shift work may be required, including weekends or evenings, depending on the nature of the industry.
• Physical work, including lifting and moving equipment, is often required.
