Job summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Lead to provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering activities across oil and gas servicing and EPC projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing mechanical design, construction, installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities:

Mechanical Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead all mechanical engineering activities from project initiation to completion.
  • Provide technical guidance to mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Review and approve mechanical engineering deliverables and calculations.
  • Ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.


Mechanical Design & Engineering:

  • Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with ASME, API, ASTM, ISO, and client standards.
  • Oversee equipment selection (pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, piping, valves, heat exchangers).
  • Coordinate mechanical engineering inputs with process, electrical, and instrumentation teams.


EPC Project Execution Support:

  • Participate in project planning, constructability reviews, and design reviews (HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Provide mechanical input during procurement, fabrication, and installation phases.
  • Resolve technical queries (TQs), RFIs, and site-related mechanical issues.
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities.


Construction & Site Supervision:

  • Supervise mechanical construction and installation activities on-site.
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings, method statements, and QA/QC requirements.
  • Monitor contractors and subcontractors’ mechanical works.
  • Conduct site inspections and witness tests as required.


Equipment & Materials Management:

  • Prepare and review equipment datasheets and material requisitions.
  • Evaluate technical bids and participate in vendor selection.
  • Review vendor drawings and documentation.
  • Ensure timely delivery and quality of mechanical equipment and materials.


Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Ensure mechanical works comply with project specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Participate in inspections, FATs, SATs, pressure tests, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation, including MDRs, as-built drawings, and handover dossiers.
  • Support audits and client inspections.


Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE):

  • Ensure all mechanical activities comply with HSE policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Ensure safe work practices during lifting, installation, and commissioning.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective actions.


Stakeholder & Client Coordination:

  • Interface with clients, consultants, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide technical clarifications and progress updates to project management.
  • Support commercial and contract teams with technical inputs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.


Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare and review mechanical progress reports.
  • Track engineering and construction milestones.
  • Maintain updated mechanical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project close-out and final handover.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • COREN registration (or eligibility) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in oil & gas servicing and EPC projects.
  • Strong experience in mechanical design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Hands-on knowledge of EPC project execution.

Location: Port Harcourt
Remuneration: NGN 300,000 - 450,000
