Accountant/Assistant Bursar
Job summary
We are supporting our client, Redeemer's High School in Redemption City, Mowe, Ogun State, with the recruitment of a highly experienced Financial Accountant/Assistant Bursar, who is capable of providing strong leadership in accounting, financial controls, tax management, and reporting.
Job descriptions & requirements
Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting, Reporting & Controls:
- Lead month-end and year-end financial book closing processes
- Perform detailed balance sheet analysis and bank reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable processes, invoice controls, and approvals
- Maintain accurate financial records, general ledgers, and supporting schedules
- Prepare budgets, management reports, and financial analyses
Tax & Regulatory Compliance:
- Manage tax planning, filings, and statutory remittances
- Liaise with tax authorities, auditors, and relevant regulators
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations
Cost, Stock & Stores Management:
- Oversee GRN, SIN, and stock control processes across school stores
- Conduct stock reconciliations and cost variance analysis
- Supervise the Stock Controller and ensure strong internal controls
Leadership & Oversight:
- Supervise accounts receivable and accounting support staff
- Provide guidance, structure, and accountability within the finance team
- Act as Assistant Bursar, representing the Bursary in the absence of the Bursar
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years post-degree experience, preferably within a school or similarly structured institution, with demonstrable responsibility for financial reporting and controls.
- Strong hands-on experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g. Tally, CITTA, or similar ERP tools)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- ACA, ACCA, or ACMA (fully qualified)
- Deep understanding of accounting standards and financial controls
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- High ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality
- Proven people-management and supervisory capability
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership and external stakeholders
