Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager to be responsible for; overseeing the daily planning, organization, management and supervision of a fish farm estate from the fish nursery state to grow out pond harvest stage, ensuring the efficient and sustainable production of fish. This includes managing staff, maintaining water quality, ensuring the health and welfare of the fish, and optimizing production processes.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Operations Management:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to drive growth, improve efficiency, and enhance the farm’s competitive position.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and new product development.
  • Oversee all daily operations of the fish farm, including feeding, breeding, and harvesting of fish.
  • Develop and implement production schedules and plans to meet market demand.
  • Monitor and manage water quality, temperature, oxygen levels and other environmental factors to ensure optimal conditions for fish growth.
  • Organize preventive and corrective equipment and infrastructure maintenance to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align farm operations with overall company goals.


Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the farm’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and adherence to financial targets.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement measures to improve profitability.
  • Manage inventory levels to balance production needs with cost efficiency.


Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal regulations and best practices to minimize negative impact on the environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, fish health, feed usage, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare and submit monthly & weekly reports on farm operations, performance, and financials to senior management.


Fish Health and Welfare:

  • Monitor the health of fish and implement disease prevention and treatment protocols.
  • Ensure proper nutrition and feeding practices to promote healthy growth
  • Conduct regular inspections and assessments of fish stock to identify and address any health issues promptly.


Staff Management:

  • Lead, train, and supervise a team of farm workers and technicians.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to ensure efficient use of labor and resources.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Customer Relations:

  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to understand customer needs and market trends.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products to meet customer expectations.

Other duties assigned


Requirements:

  • HND/BSc in Aquaculture, Agriculture, Marine Biology or related field
  • Previous hands-on farming experience and technical knowledge
  • 3 - 4 years’ experience as a fishery technician/manager
  • Experience managing farmer clusters or cooperatives is an added advantage


Competence (Knowledge, skills and Attitude)

  • Genuine interest and commitment to agriculture

  • Good understanding of modern aquaculture production methods
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage work pressure
  • Organization and time-management skill
  • Effective communication and report writing skill
