Electrical Engineer
Job summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and supervision of electrical and electronic systems onboard company vessels, at the port base, and within office facilities. The role also includes supporting the Port Engineer in vessel maintenance planning, technical coordination, and compliance with Nigerian and international marine regulations.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of shipboard electrical and electronic
- systems, including generators, switchboards, motors, lighting, navigation, and communication equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on vessels, at the port base, and office facilities.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance in line with company PMS.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, class rules, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, fault reports, and technical documentation.
- Assist the Port Engineer in coordinating vessel maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking
- activities.
- Liaise with vessel masters, engineers, contractors, and vendors on technical matters.
- Support vessel readiness, audits, inspections, and certification processes.
- Assist in monitoring spare parts, tools, and technical inventory.
- Ensure vessels comply with NIMASA, Flag State, and Classification Society requirements.
- B.Sc. or HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, preferably within the Nigerian marine or offshore sector.
- Good knowledge of marine electrical systems and shipboard operations.
- Basic understanding of marine regulations, safety standards, and class requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Willingness to attend vessels at port and offshore when required.
- Previous experience on Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs), tugboats, or workboats is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of port engineering and vessel maintenance planning is an added advantage.
- Relevant professional certifications or marine safety training are an added advantage.
